FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
With more than twenty years walking alongside people who love whisky, we’ve learned exactly which questions matter most when you’re creating something that will last for many years. Here are the questions we’re asked most often, followed by a closer look at ownership and everything that makes it real.
We’re here every step of the way.
How Much Does Pricing Start at?
A new-make cask can start from just £3,000 — that’s around 250–300 bottles in time. We’ll guide you gently to the spirit and distilleries that feel right for your story, drawing on years of trusted relationships so you always receive the finest whisky at the fairest price.
What will I do with 250 Bottles of Whisky?
Whatever feels meaningful to you, whenever the moment arrives.
A few bottles for a birth in year three. A case sent across oceans for a wedding. A dram shared on quiet anniversaries, or simply leave the cask to grow in value. We’ll make sure every bottle reaches you, wherever you are in the world, exactly when and how you want it.
What Happens if the Warehouse Closes?
Your cask belongs to you, completely and legally. In the very unlikely event anything ever happened to us, ownership would simply transfer to another bonded warehouse partner. Your Delivery Order remains in your name. Your story stays safe, always.
What is Casks of Significance?
We help you mark the moments that matter most with a whisky cask that ages alongside your life. Crafted in Scotland, shaped by your choices, maturing into something deeply personal. Whether it’s a wedding, a birth, a triumph, or a legacy just beginning — we turn it into something that lives on, ready to be poured and shared when the time feels right.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, quickly and reliably. We ship over 3,000 units per month. Once bottled, your whisky can travel to almost anywhere in the world (subject to local alcahol laws). The cask itself rests peacefully in our very own Bonded Warehouse in Scotland until you say otherwise.
What payment methods do you accept?
International bank transfer, invoiced in GBP. Credit card or Apple Pay payments via Stripe. We can arrange alternatives if needed — whatever makes the process feel simple and calm for you, just ask.
Can I cancel or amend my order after purchase?
Once the Delivery Order is issued in your name, the cask is truly yours, and we cannot undo that bond. But life shifts, and we’re here for every shift. If plans change, we’ll help you adjust timelines, bottle earlier, sell, or pass the cask on — always with care and understanding.
What is your return or refund policy?
Because each cask is personal and legally yours from day one, returns aren’t possible. If anything ever goes wrong with bottling or delivery, we’ll make it right immediately and gracefully.
How are my casks stored and protected?
In our HMRC-bonded warehouse in Scotland, under perfect conditions, fully insured at replacement value. We look after them the way we would our own and will keep you connected with updates, samples, or a visit whenever you’d like.
Is there an age restriction for purchasing casks?
You must be over 18 and of legal drinking age in your country. We will process a KYC request before issuing your Warehouse and Delivery Order.
How can I track my cask or get updates?
You’ll receive your Delivery Order, warehouse details, and gentle updates whenever something beautiful happens inside the cask. Annual regauge reports, optional samples, quiet notes from us — only ever when it feels useful, never intrusive.
Can I bottle my cask?
Whenever you feel the moment is right — all of it, or just a few bottles. We’ll handle every detail with love: labels that tell your story, packaging that feels special, delivery wherever it needs to go.
Do you offer gifting or legacy options?
This is what moves us most.
A cask for a newborn, an anniversary, a graduation, a life celebrated. We create naming rights, presentation certificates, and quiet storytelling so the gift feels as profound in twenty years as it does on the day it’s given.
How do I contact you?
Through the website, or book a calm conversation — virtual or in person.
We’re in Singapore, Hong Kong and the UK, and we’ll always make time for you.
Do I legally own the cask if I invest through your company?
Yes, completely. You receive a Delivery Order issued directly in your name by the bonded warehouse — the strongest possible proof of ownership under UK law.
How can I verify the authenticity and existence of my cask?
Your unique cask number, full documentation, photos, warehouse visit, annual samples — whatever gives you absolute peace of mind. We already steward over 1,000 casks of whisky up to 35 years old.
What is regauging, and how often should it be done?
Regauging quietly measures how your whisky is evolving — volume, strength, the angels’ share. We usually do it every 12–24 months and share the results with you like a letter from an old friend.
Can I rerack my cask into a different type of barrel?
Yes, whenever you’d like to guide the flavour somewhere new, sherry or port whatever feels right as you taste year by tear. We’ll guide you every step, transparently and patiently.
How do you assess a cask's value and potential?
We consider fill level, ABV, cask type, maturation history, market demand, and current trading benchmarks. We work backwards from the raw price of an independent bottling of your brand in the UK, multiplied by the number of bottles in the cask.
What are my options when I want to sell my cask?
Whenever you’re ready, you have three calm, supported paths:
1. Private bottling — under your name or our Halcyon Spirits label, designed exactly as you wish
2. Auction through trusted partners with full provenance
3. Quiet sale to collectors or bottlers in our network
No rush, no pressure — only help when you want it.
Can I bottle the whisky myself?
Of course. We’ll help with labels, packaging, compliance, everything — so your bottles feel as personal as the cask itself.
Is there a minimum holding period before I can sell?
None at all. You can act tomorrow or in thirty years. The cask waits for you, not the other way around.
What are the storage charges for my cask?
1-2% of the insured value per year, plus UK VAT, billed annually. Full insurance included. Clear, predictable, fair and set up as a subscription if you wish.
Is my cask insured?
Fully, at replacement value, against fire, theft, or accident. We protect it the way you would.
Can I visit or taste from my cask?
We’d love that. Visit the warehouse whenever you’re in Scotland, or we’ll send a 100ml sample (where laws allow). Tasting your own whisky as it deepens is something truly special.
What documents do I receive upon purchase?

Yes. Our award-winning independent label, Halcyon Spirits, is here if you ever want beautiful bottling with full creative control and added provenance.
Before you purchase a cask, always ask:
Will I receive a Delivery Order in my name?
Can I see the latest regauge or sample report?
Is the cask stored in a bonded warehouse?
What are my options to bottle or sell?
What post-sale support do you offer?
Avoid companies that avoid these questions or offer unrealistic guarantees. Transparency, documentation, and control should always be non-negotiable.
